Value for money – How my search for a balanced life led me to owning my own successful business.

What does value for money living mean to you? Does it mean you pay a higher price to get the best quality or does it mean you look for a cheaper option that makes your money go further? Depending on your age, your personal circumstances, what your experiences are and how your life has changed, the question to this answer may differ.

But first, let me introduce myself. My name is Sue, I am a mother of two and passionate about making a positive difference every day. I have been the owner of my small business “Essential Scent” for nine years, selling luxury smelling perfume at affordable prices. I am fiercely passionate about my business because I believe good quality and little luxuries should be available to everyone.

Growing up, my family had very few luxuries. I watched my parents struggle financially, losing their home, having to be resourceful to even provide a meal. Life was incredibly tough and not an experience I would wish on anyone else. Nevertheless, it made me determined to make a success of myself, to get a good job not to face the same worries my parents had. I had a great career in finance that allowed me to be financially comfortable, but I didn’t want to get caught up in the materialistic culture I see so many people wrapped up in. Thanks to my parents and my childhood, I gained amazing skills and values that set me up for life, helping me to make good choices and to be resourceful. Deep down, I am a ‘value for money’ girl, which means I look for the best quality at the most affordable price. Everything is researched thoroughly before I make that purchase with my hard-earned cash. It may not mean I pay the cheapest price - the quality must be to high standards, too.

It was this mindset that gave me the confidence to quit my well-paid job and jump off that rat race wagon. I had worked hard and earned a lot of money, but I had also been taken away from the things I valued most in life: my kids and family. I wanted to watch my children grow, never miss another milestone and really be present in their lives. Having a big house or expensive car and designer clothes have never been my driver in life. A home that provides security, a job that can pay my bills but also give me time to really enjoy what I value most, family, good health, and friends, that’s what really matters to me.

My business is built on these values and I am proud to offer value for money products to my like-minded customers. The fragrances I have carefully curated are an affordable alternative to expensive designer perfumes. My customers get a luxury perfume for a fraction of the price and minus the guilt that spending a large amount of money on perfume can bring. Therefore, my customers can spend the cash they have saved on much more important priorities or valuable experiences. Whether you’re a student, a parent, grand-parent, or just someone who loves perfume and can’t justify the cost of a designer bottle and want guilt-free shopping –for example let me show you my 2 personal favourites!

I like a variety of perfumes, Miss Tutu and What If are my all-time favourites which are suitable for day and evening. Both Chypre -fruity scents offering a fresh, fruity, and sweet top note, followed by a hint of floral which settles to a gorgeous long-lasting woody, vanilla base. These handy sized durable bottles are great for handbags, gym bags and travel. Prices start at £5.00 for 50ml which makes these luxury smelling perfumes affordable for everyday wear.
