REVIEW: Pasta Evangelists Sicily's Famous Fennel Sausage Sauce with Fresh Rigatoni

You know how much I love Pasta Evangelists and every week I check the website on a Friday to see what the new dish is and the week I got this I had to try this, it sounded delicious. If you want to see other Pasta Evangelists blog post from myself click here.

HOW IT COMES: I comes in a cardboard box with the minimum two dishes you choose plus ice bags and protective packaging, I love how the packaging is becoming more recyclable and environmentally friendly. Inside there are a few discount cards, sample of some Kiehl's which is odd in a food package box but I don't mind it. It comes with the menu booklet for the week, plus a book with a few recipes in which I will be trying out and will do a blog post on it for you lot to read.

ABOUT THE DISH: Apparently when you land in Sicily you catch the anise-like fragrance of wild fennel drifting in the summer breeze. Wild fennel is the seasoning of choice for many a traditional dish on the island.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Rigatoni (165g): Durum Wheat Semola, Wheat Flour, Egg, Rice Flour

  • Sausage and Fennel Sauce (160g): Pork Sausage (Pork (Origin: UK), White Wine (Sulphites), Garlic, Salt, Pepper), Cream (Milk), Onion, Fennel, Chicken Stock (contains Celery seeds), White Wine (Sulphites), Olive Oil, Garlic, Fennel Seeds, Fresh Chilli, Salt, Black Pepper

  • Italian Grated Cheese (8g): Milk, Salt, Rennet (Microbial Coagulant), Egg Lysozyme

HOW TO MAKE:

  1. Bring a large saucepan of generously salted water to the boil.

  2. Cook the pasta in the boiling water for at least 3 minutes. Stir regularly to prevent sticking.

  3. Whilst the pasta cooks, put the sauce in a large pan and add 1tbsp (15ml) of the boiling cooking water. Gently heat until steaming. Once steaming, turn off the heat.

  4. Once cooked, transfer the pasta to the sauce. Toss gently to coat.

  5. Finally, plate and sprinkle with the Italian cheese. Buon appetite.
