REVIEW: Barry M Sunset Daylight Curing Nail Paint

Ages ago I bought this range only in two colours plus the topcoat and remember liking it so thought I would repurchase those shades and topcoat as well as other shades to do this review.

CLAIMS:

  • Sunset uses natural daylight curing to create long lasting hi-gloss nails

  • Delivers the look and resilience of pro salon gel nails without a UV lamp or the expense

  • No ned for a base coast as the special formulation bonds to the nails

  • Remove with regular remover

PACKAGING:

If you have seen my nail polish collection blog post before if not here is 2018 and here is 2019 but you can see I try to keep them organised and the squared bottles are my favourite so obviously Barry M is really good for my organisation.

HOW TO:

  1. Paint on a thin layer of chosen Sunset Nail Painting and allow to dry.

  2. Apply a second thin coat.

  3. When dry, apply a thin layer of Sunset Topcoat (no other topcoat will work)

  4. Your nails will now cure naturally in daylight, for a long lasting, stunning pro mani effect.

Vengeance Is Wine

I prepped my nails, buffing, pushing the cuticles back etc.

Layer #1: The first layer is slight patchy.

Layer #2: No sooner I had finished the first layer and took the photo I noticed it looked dry so did the second coat and it looks a lot better.

Topcoat: I applied a thin layer of the topcoat and it dried within a minute or so and was hardened. One thing that did bother me was the colour transfer on the topcoat brush so what I have done is clean the brush with nail polish remover on the lintfree cloth and done.

Day 3: I was packing my bag and got my nails caught or I don't know but have two little chips on nails on my right hand.

Day 4: I got a bit of a peel on my left thumb.

Day 5: My nails are looking scruffy and a mess, if you know me, you will know this sort of nail is not me, I don't do chipped nails.

Day #6 (Removal): Fed up with scruffy nails so I used my regular Cutex Acetone nail polish remover, there is a slight tint of the colour left on my nail which I think is because I didn't use a base coat which I usually do but it states you don't need to and I am following their rules.

Date Applied: Sunday 8th March 2020

You Drive Me Navy

I left my nails a day or two after the first nail colour so there wasn't that stain left as you can see, I prepped my nail by filing and buffing but no base coat which kills me.

Layer #1: First layer looks slightly textured on a few nails for some reason.

Layer #2: Looks a lot better with the second layer of colour.

Topcoat: Yet again have I applied this top coat and it dries and cures my nails really quickly within like a minute but it has transferred on the brush so I had to clean the brush with some acetone nail polish remover on a lint free pad.

Day 5: Got a few chips.

Day 6 (Removal): I think it's time to remove the nail polish with my usual Cutex Acetone nail polish remover, it really has stained my nails blue, I have even wrapped my nails in lint free nail wipes that are soaked in acetone and it still has stained my nails. I think if I use this shade again I will use a base coat for sure.

Date Applied: Saturday 14th March 2020

Peach For The Stars

Prep my nails, buff, file and cleanse but no base coat, they do look slightly stained from the previous nail polish.

Layer #1: One coat and it looks pretty good.

Layer #2: Coat two makes it look better.

Topcoat: Adding the top coat makes the colour a little more vibrant.

Day 5: I am blaming corona virus for these chips, the nail on my thumb on my left hand chipped because I had to help move some furniture around. I don't know at this point of writing this part of the blog post to when this blog post gets publish how the world will be but I had to move bedrooms so my nails suffered.

Day 6 (Removal): I need to remove the nail polish as you can see so I did and I cut my nails because they were wrecked and it's nothing to do with the nail polish, it's all the moving of the furniture and boxes, constantly washing my hands and it's just draining.

Date Applied: Friday 20th March 2020

Bug A Blue

My nails are short but that's because I wrecked them doing some house work, moving furniture and helping the family.

Layer #1: One coat is slightly patchy.

Layer #2: Second coat helped even it all out.

Topcoat: The top coat seriously does dry super quick and harden the nails.

Day 5: The nails aren't looking very good.

Day 6 (Removal): I barely have any nail polish left on. I removed the nail polish and it looks pretty good.

Date Applied: Saturday 28th March 2020

Fuchsia Generation

Prepped my nails, cut them and buffed but no base coat.

Layer #1: this coat is already pretty good.

Layer #2: second coat done.

Topcoat: I applied the top coat, I love how shiny it looks.

Day 6: chipped.

Day 7: I am missing actual full nails of colour.

Day 9 (Removal): My nails really are chipped and scuffed. I removed the nail polish and there was no stains.

Date Applied: Thursday 2nd April 2020

The Way You Make Me Teal

Nails all prepped.

Layer #1: It is almost a solid colour with just one layer.

Layer #2: This isn't a colour I usually wear but it looks pretty nice.

Topcoat: The colour is more glossy when the top coat has been applied.

Day 4: A few chips.

Day 5 (Removal): More chips, larger chips so I thought it was time to remove so did and it has stained my nails.

Date Applied: Monday 13th April 2020

Can't Get You Out Of My Red

I have cut my nails since the last one.

Layer #1: Slightly streaky.

Layer #2: Second coat made it look better.

Topcoat: Glossy and nice looking.

Day 5 (Removal): Chipped and completely gone on some nails so I removed it, I thought it would stain my nails but it hasn't.

Date Applied: Sunday 19th April 2020

Dark Side Of The 'Shroom

Prepped.

Layer #1: There are a few patches.

Layer #2: Another coat which was needed, I never usually wear this sort of colour and I don't particularly like it.

Topcoat: Topcoat to make it look all glossy and nice.

Day 4: Chipping on most nails.

Day 5 (Removal): Time to remove and when I removed it, it looks like my nails are dirty underneath but it's the polish

Date Applied: Wednesday 29th April 2020

Empire State Of Mint

Prepped my nails by filing and buffing but no base coat.

Layer #1: Very streaky.

Layer #2: Patchy still.

Layer #3: Third coat helps a lot and was definitely needed.

Topcoat: My nails look really nice.

Day 4 (Removal): Chips, chips and more chips, I removed it and there was a slight stain.

Date Applied: Sunday 3rd May 2020

I've Been Pinkin'

You can see my nails are slightly stained from the previous colour.

Layer #1: Streaky and patchy.

Layer #2: Still not a solid colour.

Layer #3: APPLIED LAYER #2

Topcoat: Glossy top coat. The colour has transferred to the top coat brush.

Day 3 (Removal): Really chipped pretty quickly.

Date Applied: Wednesday 6th May 2020

All The Things She Red

Nails prepped and also sorry about the dodgy tan, I haven't washed it off yet so it's looking slightly green.

Layer #1: Streaky.

Layer #2: Looking a little more solid but still not perfect.

Layer #3: This colour looks amazing with a tan, it really popped.

Topcoat: Topcoat has glossed it up.

Day 3 (Removal): They really have chipped so removed it but forgot to take a photo (whoops!)

Date Applied: Sunday 10th May 2020

Do You Pink I'm Sexy?

I cut my nails and fake tanned then decided I would paint my nails and yet the nails are stained with tan.

Layer #1: A very sheer coat.

Layer #2: Still patchy, very sheer still.

Layer #3: Definitely need more coats.

Layer #4: Streaky still.

Layer #5: Better but still think I could do with more coats but I don't want to do any more layers because the nails will be really thick.

Topcoat: Coat of top coat has made the colour look a lot better and not as patchy as before.

Day 4 (Removal): Some chips and some completely naked nails. Removed and forgot to take a photo.

Date Applied: Tuesday 12th May 2020

Do It Like A Nude

I have fake tanned again and not showered it off again.

Layer #1: Very sheer and streaky.

Layer #2: Streaky, streaky, streaky!

Layer #3: Still streaky and patchy.

Layer #4: Slightly still patchy.

Topcoat: This topcoat does really help with any uneven nails.

Day 5 (Removal): A few naked nails and a few chipped nails, I removed it but again I was really bad and forgot to take photos.

Date Applied: Friday 17th May 2020

Now it's not top scoring but I think Barry M should not get rid of this range and should include more colours like a black, more shades of pinks. PLEASE Barry M, bring it back, they still have some a few left on the website. The top coat I have used since testing all these shades, I have used it on other brands nail polish and it dries them super quick, hardens the nails and just looks amazing.

Purchased From: Barry M

Price: £4.99 per colour + £4.99 for top coat

Star Rating: 4/5
