RECIPE: Yuk Sung #GuestBlogger (@themumofseven)

So this is my first guest blogger but it isn't however it isn't how I wanted it to be but it is special a one because it is a cooking blog post with me and my mum.

A while ago Dad mentioned this dish which is also called Rousong, he had it before he met my mum and it came up when we ordered it at a takeaway so Mum tried to remake it and smashed it recipe so I thought I would get her to teach me and write it as a blog post but as my first guest blog post.

I know she hasn't really written this blog post but next blog post will be written by somebody else but this is her recipe told by her, written in her word but I've typed it up, do you get it.)

Serves 8

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp groundnut oil

  • 3 pieces of frozen ginger

  • 6 cloves of garlic

  • 1kg minced porrk

  • 1 orange bell pepper

  • 2 tins of bamboo shoots

  • 4 carrots

  • 2 tins of water chestnuts

  • 2 tbsps Shaohsing Rice Wine

  • 2 tbsps light soy sauce

  • 4 tsps dark soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp fish sauce

  • 1 to 2 tbsp oyster sauce

  • iceberg lettuce or gem lettuce

Method

Step 1: Heat the groundnut oil in a wok on medium heat.

Step 2: Whilst the oil is heating up, defrost the ginger in the microwave.

Step 3: Cut the carrot up into small diced pieces

Step 4: Once the oil is hot add the minced pork and brown that off.

Step 5: Peel and dice the garlic and add to the pork with the ginger.

Step 6: Add the carrots to the pork mix.

Step 7: Remove the wok from the heat.

Step 8: Cut up the bell pepper, bamboo shoots and water chestnuts into small diced pieces and add to the pork mix and mix together.

Step 9: Add all the liquids to the mixture and place over the heat. You can see in this picture my mum in her work uniform.

Step 10: To serve, fill the lettuce with a small amount of the mixture and wrap, my mum had also made that night Chinese takeaway style curry with rice but I didn't have the curry I just had rice and Yuk Sung.

TIP: if you have leftovers you can allow it to cool down, put it in tupperware and freeze it then when you want to eat it, take it out of your freezer the night before to allow to defrost then put into a wok and cook to warm up or even microwave it to warm up.
