BATTLE OF THE DUPES #15: MAC vs. NYX

For years I have been using MAC Face & Body foundation but when I saw on @dupeboss Instagram post saying that NYX Total Control Drop Foundation is a dupe for MAC Face & Body. If you would like to see the post then click here. Now the shades aren't dupes, it's the actual consistency that is the dupe apparently. I did a blog post recently on the NYX foundation: FIRST IMPRESSIONS: NYX Professional Makeup Total Control Drop Foundation.

PACKAGING (MAC):

The MAC comes in a matte box which feels really nice, the bottle is plastic, you can squeeze it if you need anymore foundation.

PACKAGING (NYX):

When I got the box I saw it and opened it up and the bottle was so small and didn't realise how small it was. Packaging is nice, glass frosted bottle, plastic pipette dropper. I do like the frosted glass.

CLAIMS (MAC):

  • Comfortable

  • Lightweight

  • Low-to-medium buildable coverage

  • Natural satin finish.

  • Moisturising

  • Long-wearing

  • Stay-true colour.

  • Water-resistant

  • Instantly hydrating

  • Non-drying

  • For all skin types, including sensitive skin

  • Dermatologist tested

  • Ophthalmologist tested

  • Non-acnegenic

CLAIMS (NYX):

  • With just a few drops, it delivers sheer-to-full coverage and a velvety, matte finish.

  • Simply adjust the number of drops you use until the desired level of coverage is achieved.

  • More drops = more coverage

  • Light coverage = 2 drops

  • Medium coverage = 3 drops

  • Full coverage = 4 drops

SHADE RANGE (MAC):

I have the 50ml bottle which they have 13 however in the 120ml bottle they have 11 shades, there is a white in 120ml. I have a feeling they may discontinue this foundation because I am sure there was more shades.

SHADE RANGE (NYX):

30 shades

INGREDIENTS (MAC):

Water/Aqua/Eau, Dimethicone, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Butylene Glycol, Pvp/Hexadecene Copolymer, Stearic Acid, Phenyl Trimethicone, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Ethylhexyl Hydroxystearate, Vp/Eicosene Copolymer, Talc, Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange), Fusanus Spicatus Wood Oil, Xanthan Gum, Triethanolamine, Polysorbate 20, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Cetyl Alcohol, Disodium Edta, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, [+/- Mica, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Chromium Oxide Greens (Ci 77288)]

INGREDIENTS (NYX):

Cyclopentasiloxane, Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycerin, Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Propylene Glycol, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Isododecane, Dimethicone, Phenyl Trimethicone, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Propylene Carbonate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol. MAY CONTAIN / PEUT CONTENIR (+/-): Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

HOW TO (MAC):

  1. Apply to skin using a sponge or foundation brush.

  2. Blend with fingers, sponge or brush.

HOW TO (NYX):

  1. Take your coverage from sheer to full as you continue to add drops.

  2. Apply and blend using the Total Control Drop Foundation Brush for a stunning finish.

Prior to applying makeup I do my skincare routine which is normal.

I applied the MAC Face And Body to my right side (left in the picture) using a brand new Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge to blend this foundation in. I would say this is medium coverage and you don't have to use a lot, it is very lightweight.

I applied the NYX Total Control Drop Foundation to my left side (right in the picture) using another brand new Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, I have bought a pack of 4 sponges so I could do these dupe blog posts, there is another foundation one coming up soon. You have to use more product to get a decent coverage, I wouldn't say it is full coverage but it isn't as lightweight as the MAC foundation.

Rest of my makeup done, there is definitely a shade difference but as I am not going out I am not bothered.

Update #1 (2:45pm): A bit more flawless on the MAC side.

Update #2 (6pm): The NYX side is feeling dry and tight but both sides look okay.

Update #3 (7pm): yes I have been crying, the day I trialed this out I had really been suffering with the flu and I was just in so much pain. Both sides are looking dry.

The finishes are different and if you think about it the MAC foundation is £27.00 for 50ml, if you was to buy two bottles of the NYX you get 26ml for £28.00 so it doesn't really work out cheaper to get the NYX, for 52ml of the NYX that's four bottles equaling £56. What I do like is that fact that there is a pipette on the NYX foundation, I feel you can control the amount of product you distribute. I have purchased this MAC foundation loads to the point where I did the Back-To-MAC scheme just with 50ml MAC Face And Body bottles. I love the idea of the Back-To-MAC scheme and if you don't know what it is when you take 6 MAC primary packaging or containers back to the store empty you receive a free MAC lipstick of your own choice and the packaging you send back is recycled. If you have dry skin the MAC foundation is better.

Is it a dupe: No
